Stump Grinding & Removal
We grind out stumps of any size across West Cumbria, cutting well below ground level so the area is ready to re-turf, replant or build over. Quotes are free, fixed and without obligation.

How it works
First, a free survey and fixed quote: we check access, anything buried nearby, and how deep the grind needs to go for what you are planning. Replanting or building over the spot needs a deeper grind than returfing.
Then the grind itself: the stump is machined out in controlled passes, well below ground level. Narrow-access machinery fits through a standard garden gate, so enclosed back gardens are rarely a problem.
Finally the site is tidied. Grindings are cleared away or left as mulch, whichever you prefer, and the ground is left clean and level.
What determines the price
Four things: the stump’s diameter at ground level, which is the biggest factor; access, since a stump reached through a garden gate costs less than one behind a wall; the number of stumps, because several ground in one visit reduces the price per stump; and the species, as hardwoods and wide-spreading roots take longer to grind.
Whatever the answer, the quote is fixed before work starts. If you are having a tree removed, ask for the stump price at the same time; having both done together costs less than two visits.
Stump Grinding questions
Will the tree grow back?
No. Grinding removes the growing tissue, so the stump cannot regenerate. Any suckers produced by remaining roots die back.
Can you reach a stump in an enclosed back garden?
Usually, yes. Narrow-access machinery fits through a standard garden gate, and access is confirmed at the free survey.
What is left when the work is finished?
A level area of soil and fine grindings, ready to seed, turf or plant.
